The Power of the Sacred Sanskrit Sounds

The sacred sounds of Sanskrit hold transformational power. They attune us to cosmic frequencies and are a means of activating our bodies through all the levels of our being. Our body is in essence a supercomputer. Using the gifts of mantra, breath, focus of energy and intention, and precision in the formulation of mantric sounds including an awareness of the five mouth placements and the specific duration for each of the sounds, we can engage our body of sound and awaken to more the fullness and essence of our true nature.

“The petals of the chakras represent an unfoldment of primal sound through the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. The six lower chakras contain a total of fifty petals, each of which relates to one of the fifty letters of the Sanskrit alphabet. This is the “garland of letters” that shows the vibratory frequencies of the chakras. We all experience moments of feeling blocked, stuck, or uninspired. For those of us who are used to achieving and ticking boxes, these feelings can feel frustrating and even overwhelming. If you’re facing decisions, navigating uncertainty, or simply need a boost, there are ways to shift your energy and regain clarity.

Here are ten strategies to help you lift your energy and approach life’s impasses with a fresh perspective.

1. Open Yourself to Flow and Spontaneity

Rigid routines can sometimes limit creativity and inspiration. Clear your calendar of non-essential tasks, step away from your “to-dos,” and make space for spontaneity. Allowing yourself to explore unplanned opportunities can open the door to adventure, new perspectives, and unexpected joy.

2. Do Something Fun and Change Your Concept of Self

Break out of your mold and challenge your comfort zone. Say “yes” to something new—whether it’s a hobby you’ve always wanted to try, a class, or simply a fun activity with no specific goal. Engaging in fresh experiences can spark creativity and shift your mindset.

3. Reconnect with Nature

For a simple practice, focus on your breath: inhale for a count of three and exhale for a count of six. Visualise breathing in life-giving oxygen from the trees and exhaling gratitude in return.

As multidimensional beings, our energy centers—like chakras, meridians, and the aura—can become clogged over time. Energy healing practices can help release stuck emotions and restore balance, opening you up to greater clarity and vitality.

7. Explore Mantras and Chanting

The repetition of sacred sounds can transform your vibration. Sanskrit mantras, such as Oṁ Gaṁ Gaṇapataye Namaḥ, are designed to clear obstacles and create stability. Chanting or listening to mantras can bring calmness to your mind, reduce stress, and support spiritual growth.

There are many mantras, invoked at different times for connecting with different energies. The chant, Oṁ Gaṁ Gaṇapataye Namaḥ, invokes the qualities of energy associated with Hindu deity Gaṇeśa  – to clear the obstacles that might present themselves on our path. It is also the energy associated with the Mūlādhāra chakra – of stability, foundations, new ventures, and moving beyond duality, to touch on a few other aspects. I play this in my home space, and chant this at specific times when I feel I need extra assistance to move through a particular challenge. You can listen to a sample of it on the Mantra album.

8. Sound Yoga (Nāda Yoga) Guided Practice

The vibrational power of sound-based practices offers a range of health benefits, particularly through stimulating the vagus nerve. This gentle activation supports anxiety relief, eases pain, and uplifts mood by engaging the parasympathetic nervous system. As a result, your body releases feel-good chemicals like oxytocin, nitric oxide, dopamine, and endorphins, helping you feel balanced and revitalised.

9. Follow What Brings You Joy

One of the simplest yet most profound pieces of advice is to do what brings you joy. Start small and follow the breadcrumb trail of things that light you up—you may be surprised at where they lead.
